Detox is a seasonal cleansing of the body from toxins. It is most often carried out in spring or summer, after winter, when our metabolism slows down and the body is often burdened with toxins. It is important to remember that detox is a dietary method aimed at cleansing the body, not starvation.
Cleansing the body should be tailored to the individual needs of each of us. To this end, it is best to consult a dietitian who, after conducting an interview and tests, will select the appropriate detox for our needs and determine its duration. Detoxes usually last from 1 to 3 days, but in some cases they can be longer, e.g., 7-10 days. A one-day detox can be done on your own and repeated every few months, but for longer cleanses, it is important to consult a specialist, as they can have a negative impact on your health.
First of all, remember to drink plenty of water during this time, as it is mainly water that helps remove large amounts of toxins from the body. Other important products for cleansing the body are fruits and vegetables, especially seasonal ones, rich in antioxidants (which neutralize free radicals, thus protecting cells from damage). It is also important to increase the amount of leafy vegetables such as kale, parsley, spinach, and lettuce, as they are a rich source of vitamins and minerals. It is best to combine vegetables and fruits to make various smoothies. You should also include foods rich in fiber, such as oatmeal, bran, beans, chia seeds, strawberries, and prunes. It is also worth including herbs such as nettle, dandelion, and chamomile infusions.
- Removal of toxins from the body
- Improved well-being - cleansing the body contributes to increased energy and better sleep, and thus to better overall well-being.
- Improved skin appearance - cleansing the body leads to improved skin appearance, reduction of discoloration and imperfections.
- Metabolism support - Detox improves metabolism, which contributes to its better functioning and nutrient absorption.
- Support for the digestive system
- Strengthening the immune system - detoxification helps to increase the body's resistance to all kinds of infections.
- Pregnant women (detoxification during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when energy intake should be higher than usual, can be dangerous for both the baby and the mother)
- Breastfeeding women
- Eating disorders (in this case, detoxes can exacerbate mental health issues)
- Children
- Older people

Detox is a seasonal cleansing of the body of toxins, which allows us to gently remove all harmful substances from our body. The duration of such cleansing should be tailored to the individual needs of each of us, so it is best to consult a dietitian before starting. The most important thing when cleansing the body is to drink large amounts of water, and it is equally important to consume foods rich in antioxidants. The benefits of cleansing the body include: removal of toxins, improved skin appearance, improved well-being, and support for the digestive system. However, it is important to remember that pregnant and breastfeeding women, children, the elderly, people with eating disorders, athletes, and people who are ill should not undergo cleansing. It is equally important not to undergo overly long and restrictive cleansing of the body and to remember that detox is not fasting.
